3、  full diplomatic relations 正式外交關系

4、  Our hope and vision was to forge a Sino-American relationship which would contribute to world peace and the welfare of our two peoples.

1）  contribute to：help to bring about

2）  Sino-American relationship中美關系

譯文：

建立一種有利于世界和平和我們兩國人民幸福的中美關系是我們當時的希望和憧憬。

3）  注意：a.上面譯文與原文主語和表語的位置。

         b.原文中was體現“過去時態”，而漢語動詞本身沒有體現時態的變形，因此譯文中需加“當時”。

5、  I personally looked upon the forging of firm Sino-American ties as a historically significant experi-ment.

1)      looked upon…as:把…看作

2)      a historically significant experi-ment:具有歷史意義的嘗試

注意experi-ment是“實驗”、“試驗”的意思。這里譯成“嘗試”。historically副詞轉譯為形容詞。

譯文：

我本人把建立牢固的中美關系看作是具有歷史意義的嘗試。

3）  yours指your country， mine 指my country，把your country翻譯為“貴國”很好，比較客氣，也與演講的場合相符合。
